Nymphenburg: Strolling down royal pathways

NymphenburgNymphenburg, © NEW IN THE CITY

Nymphenburg bears the characteristics of a huge recreational area – with a royal flavor. The 300-year-old regal Nymphenburg Palace park, with its lakes and the adjoining botanical gardens, is still very attractive for a healthy “constitutional” walk – or, as we’d say today – a nice stroll.

After your royal ramble take a break at the café at the Palmenhaus. For beer and Bavarian food, visit the Hirschgarten, Munich’s biggest beer garden seating up to 10,000 visitors. The nine-day Magdalenenfest with its rides, sideshows and stands, takes place here every year two weeks before the Auer Dult (see Au district). The Olympic Park, a rolling green expanse, is also within walking distance. It’s also worth taking a stroll through the residential areas. The suburban part of Nymphenburg has many fine old mansions situated in quiet, well-kept surroundings.
