22nd Bar
Stylishly soaring over the city, great cocktail mixes and a fabulous view from the 22nd floor. A live piano player every evening. A visit is not exactly inexpensive, but it’s always worth it. Clientele is very chic.
›› Innenstadt, Innside Residence Eurotheum, Neue Mainzer Str. 66-68, Tel. 21 08 80,

The heart and hub of the well-known Frankfurter Hof. Nice and quiet piano music and drinks that are not particularly inexpensive.
›› Innenstadt, Am Kaiserplatz 1, Tel. 21 51 18,

Dimly lit but nice. For many years, men in jeans and leather jackets have been playing pinball on colorful machines in the oldest and most popular gay bar in the city.
›› Innenstadt, Elefantengasse 11-13, Tel. 29 29 26

Bar Fiftyfour
An all-round talent. Early mornings, shoppers drink their cappuccino, business people drop by around noon and, after work is finished, dim lighting is switched on in the rooms and the little 54 mutates from a breakfast café into a lifestyle bar.
›› Innenstadt, Große Bockenheimer Str. 54, Tel. 92 88 68 48,

Small but wow! In the BB-Bar, leopard skins dominate as sofa coverings, as do miniskirts among the female patrons. There’s champagne instead of cider and a lot of wonderfully colorful people who can’t sleep at night. Offbeat nightlife bar where the two women bosses personally mix drinks.
›› Innenstadt, Kaiserhof Str. 18, Tel. 13 37 97 08

Café am Liebfrauenberg
The café, founded in 1893, is Frankfurt’s oldest coffee house, providing a lot of nostalgia with its thick slices of cake, chandeliers and red satin curtains. If you’re lucky, you’ll be served by the singing Italian waiter Luigi.
›› Altstadt, Liebfrauenberg 24, Tel. 28 73 80

Café Hauptwache
The magnificent, centrally located coffee house is more than 275 years old. In the past, it was a police station and jail; now it’s a café, bar and restaurant. It is nice and cozy, especially in the evenings, when the lighting is dimmed; sometimes a DJ spins his tunes.
›› Innenstadt, An der Hauptwache 15, Tel. 21 99 86 72,

Café Karin
The absolute cult address among Frankfurt’s coffee houses and popular in every social stratum – there is barely a place where the patrons intermix more than here. The Karin has also become a major player for breakfast and quality coffee.
›› Innenstadt, Großer Hirschgraben 28, Tel. 29 52 17,

The Cigarrum in the Frankfurter Hof was rightly named as the Cigar Lounge of the Year in 2009. Besides the finest cigars from Cuba and the Dominican Republic, specially selected rums and various spirits, wines and draft beers are served. Live jazz on Wednesdays.

›› Altstadt, Carl-Theodor-Reiffenstein-Platz 6, Tel. 94 94 28 64,

Euro Deli
Mixture of coffee shop, bistro and cocktail bar that fits precisely into the cliché of the banking metropolis. In the five years that the Eurotheum has been located here, things get really happening here at the Banker After-Work Parties.

›› Innenstadt, Zeil 112-114, Tel. 35 35 15 00,

This was once the trendy location in the city, but has aged somewhat over the years. But the bar with the two large glass facades is naturally still worth visiting for a drink.

›› Innenstadt, Kleine Bockenheimer Str. 14, Tel. 90 02 56 65,

Kleinlaut & Brown - Gesellschaft für gute
Imaginative Frankfurt trendy bar. The three aquariums provide entertainment and something to talk about, as does a visit to the WC. DJ on Fridays and Saturdays.
›› Innenstadt, Stift Str. 34, Tel. 21 99 09 54,

Lala Mamoona (das Klohäuschen)
The former public convenience from the late 19th century has been freshly renovated and now has more or less the dignified charm of a small chapel. The DJ plays a lot of black music and the atmosphere here is just fantastic.
›› Innenstadt, Zeil 1a, Tel. 25 17 27 95

Le Bar
With its crazy lighting, large lilac seats with gold fringes and artfully decorated walls, Le Bar has an authentic French nightclub atmosphere. The champagne flows freely but there are plenty of other alcoholic drinks to tempt guests. The fun and games shifts to the outdoor terraces in summer. The tannery, which was built in 1520 and is now under a preservation order, has been used as an inn going back as far as 1904. It became famous mainly due to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who stopped by in 1814 and 1815. After several years of stagnation, followed by renovation and extension into a hotel, this popular destination for a day trip was finally opened again in Summer 2007. Since then numerous customers, from business people to joggers, can once again take a seat in the beautiful summer garden – with room for up to 500 – to enjoy Frankfurt specialties.
