Call a Bike
Deutsche Bahn rental cycles are parked all over the city. If you want to rent a bike, call the hotline and you’ll be given a code that opens the lock. One minute costs 8 cents, 24 hours cost € 15 (with BahnCard € 9). The first 30 minutes are free if you pay an annual subscription of € 36 (€ 27 for BahnCard holders). Winter break is from mid-December to mid-March.

Erlebnisweg Rheinschiene
Informative cycle route along the Rhine that starts in Bonn and continues through Cologne, Düsseldorf, and beyond to Duisburg. There are signs bearing the route’s logo to help you find your way as well as info boards detailing interesting highlights. If you cycle along the left Rhine bank one way and return on the right bank, you’ll have covered a grand total of 357 km.

Köln & Bonn Marathon
Cologne’s marathon was launched in 1997 and is very popular with more than 25,000 runners taking part in early October. The route traditionally runs through the city center and is 42.195 km long. It’s also Germany’s third-largest marathon and in-line skaters and racers using hand-powered cycles are welcome to take part. The event includes a half marathon, 10 km run, individual section runs and children’s races. With 700,000 spectators, the marathon resembles a giant party with something new to enjoy every year.
