Getting around Rhineland

A new Internet site (www.mobil-im-rheinland.de – German only) launched at the end of 2008.
The portal offers, for the first time, all the relevant information about traffic and transportation in the Cologne-Bonn region and is free of charge and without the need for cumbersome registration.

Users of the Web site can find the best way to get to a destination in terms of cost, the environmental impact and travel time – either using a car, bus, train, airplane or even walking.
The site provides all the necessary information for travel including route planning that takes into account traffic holdups, roadworks and parking space availability, as well as arrival and departure times at airports and speedy information about timetables.

The portal also has lots of extra services such as public transport routes and mini timetables for downloading, ferry and Rheinschifffahrt river cuise timetables, help on planning days out including tips on good places to visit, walking distance times and much more.

The mobility Web site was launched through an initiative by cities and towns in the Cologne-Bonn region and by the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg, which is the region´s public transport association, so its involvement guarantees that the portal has a sustainable future.

Other important partners are Cologne-Bonn Airport, the ADAC German car breakdown club and the WDR public broadcaster in Cologne.
The online services are being constantly expanded and will also be available to cell phone and PDA users mid-term.
