Apartment hotels – a perfect alternative to a traditional hotel
Sightseeing tour, Oktoberfest visit, or trade fair—there are many reasons to come to Munich. And the city does its best to meet the needs of its diverse visitors. From a bed in a hostel to a cozy room in a small downtown guesthouse or a luxury suite in a five-star hotel, Munich offers a wide range of accommodation options, with around 80,000 guest beds across approximately 450 hotels of all categories (as of 2025).
Even before the pandemic, Munich recorded around 17 million overnight stays per year from both domestic and international visitors. Today, the numbers have largely recovered and continue to grow. Prestigious luxury hotels such as the Bayerischer Hof, Vier Jahreszeiten, and Mandarin Oriental have long contributed to these impressive figures. Offering top-level comfort in prime locations, they have hosted numerous high-profile guests over the years. For more than a decade, The Charles Hotel of the Rocco Forte Group has also been a strong competitor in Munich’s luxury hotel segment.
A great alternative to traditional hotels—especially for longer stays without stretching the budget—is an apartment hotel. These allow guests to move straight into a fully furnished and technically equipped apartment, complete with kitchen, internet access, and often a separate workspace.
Munich offers a wide selection of serviced apartments in nearly every district. Examples include the upscale Residence Inn in the eastern part of the city, Citadines in the Arnulfpark district, and the Living Hotels group, which now operates several locations across Munich. Nightly rates typically decrease significantly for stays of four weeks or longer.
